The Project Fibonacci Foundation has unveiled ILiFT, a literacy initiative arising from increased literacy needs in the area.
The program, officials said, is aimed at developing the basic literacy skills―the precursors to developing creativity and imagination and the ongoing skills needed in adulthood that are important to future careers.
As part of the program ILiFT will provide books to early learners, ages 3-5.
Initiative co-chairs Tamalin Martin and Barb Welch said literacy difficulties create educational disadvantages that lead to social and economic disparities.
