Inspiring future STEAM leaders
The Project Fibonacci® Foundation is a nonprofit that promotes science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education across New York. Programs introduce students to interdisciplinary learning to spark creativity and inspire leadership. By integrating the arts with traditional STEM, the foundation builds confidence and decision-making and problem-solving skills essential for creating future community leaders.
Named for Leonardo “Fibonacci” Bonnaci—a renowned 12th and 13th century mathematician—the organization runs youth innovation camps and a literacy program, professional development events for educators, a STEAM symposium for women and more. It also partners with local organizations for a food program that has provided more than 119,000 pounds of food to families since 2020. With no paid staff, the foundation relies on a team of about 75 volunteers to power its mission.
Full STEAM ahead
The Project Fibonacci Foundation was started in 2016 by Andrew Drozd, president and CEO of a tech company called ANDRO Computational Solutions. “We’re a research and development company,” said Amy Jaworski, director of public relations and communications at ANDRO and a volunteer at The Project Fibonacci Foundation. “Dr. Drozd was inspired by a global leadership program his son attended and worked with other tech companies to start something similar. The idea is to help the local students and build local talent. We want to show them all the opportunities we have here when it comes to STEAM and education.”
More than 100 high school students attend The Project Fibonacci Foundation’s annual flagship event, the STEAM Leadership Conference. Held in summer, the weeklong gathering brings together students for an immersive experience that’s both educational and fun.
Promotional swag bags carry supplies
In summer 2025, the foundation hosted its seventh annual conference at a local community college. Attendees engaged with topics ranging from metamaterials and semiconductor chips to aerospace engineering, the quantum realm and science fiction versus scientific reality.
Students were given conference swag bags through a one by one grant. Each drawstring sportpack contained a water bottle, notebook, sticker, pen, pin and an outdoor essentials kit. The bags also included a bar of soap made by a student attendee who started her own soap company. “It’s just a big bag of fun,” Jaworski said. Students used many of the supplies during the week, and the bags helped carry their materials day after day. After the event, the bags help raise awareness for the foundation and event sponsors while out in the community.
