A Project Fibonacci “Quadcopters for Girls” learning and competition event will be held at The Beeches on Tuesday and Wednesday, sponsored by ANDRO Computational Solutions, LLC of Rome.

Open to the public from 1:30-3 p.m., the event will include 13 teams of middle-school female students from the Adirondack, Camden, Holland Patent, Oriskany, Westmoreland, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, Canastota and Frankfort-Schuyler school districts, said ANDRO.

The teams will be working to “learn to program, build and repair, and fly small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) or drones,” according to ANDRO. Each five-student team, plus a teacher serving as captain, will learn several topics:

Safety and flight rules; Hobby flying; Aerodynamics; Flight simulation software; Manual and autonomous flight; UAS repair and assembly; sUAS photography and first-person view; Drone racing demo.

ANDRO is presenting the event in support of the Project Fibonacci “Women and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math)” series, with a goal of encouraging female participation in STEM and art fields of study and work.

A second overall Project Fibonacci STEAM Youth Conference for male and female high school and college students will be held July 30-Aug. 5.

ANDRO is the founding company of the Project Fibonacci initiative.
