ROME, N.Y. — The Project Fibonacci Foundation, in collaboration with Oneida Herkimer Madison (OHM) BOCES, will hold an artificial intelligence (AI) professional-development day on May 6 for educators to increase their awareness of AI and AI skills for the classroom.

The immersive event, which will provide a dynamic exploration of AI in education, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at OHM BOCES on Middle Settlement Road in New Hartford.

The professional-development day also aligns with the purpose of Project Fibonacci’s STEAM Leadership Conference (to be held Aug. 4-10), which has the theme of “Artificial Intelligence, The Smart Machine, and The Human Factor,” the foundation said in a news release.

“Through this initiative, we aspire to foster a deeper understanding of AI among educators, enabling them to engage more effectively with this transformative technology for the benefit of their students,” Project Fibonacci Foundation planning-committee member Amy Jaworski said.

The goal of the professional-development day is to empower educators with the knowledge and confidence to integrate AI into their teaching practices. They will have the opportunity to explore strategies and best practices for teaching and learning experiences through interactive workshops on topics including utilizing ChatGPT for project-based learning, AI tips and tricks, and responsible AI usage and navigating ethical challenges. The day also includes a mock trial of AI, where participants will examine the pros and cons of AI, its impact on education, and more.

Educators are encouraged to bring their own laptop, tablet, or smartphone as time will be allotted for the hands-on exploration of AI technologies within certain workshops.

The Project Fibonacci Foundation says it works to inspire and empower the next generation of innovators and leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through educational experiences, mentorship programs, and community partnerships.
