Rome Historical Society, 200 Church St., will host award-winning educator and local historian Gary Ford, and the Project Fibonacci Foundation, Inc., for the grand premiere of “Not HYPE — Not the History You Probably Expected” from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 19.
The free events will feature engaging historical discussion, the debut of an episode of the “Not HYPE” educational series, a question-and-answer session with Ford, light refreshments, historical collections at the Rome Historical Society, and more.
RHS is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and presenting the history of Rome, and serving the local community through its museum, research library, and array of free educational programs.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Project Fibonacci Foundation and Mr. Gary R. Ford on this event,” RHS Educator Miranda Sherrock said. “I am hopeful that it will bring people to the museum who have never been here before.”
Project Fibonacci Foundation is a non-profit, educational organization focused on using STEAM education (STEM with the Arts) to promote the next wave of young scholars, scientists, artists and productive citizens. The ultimate objective of the Not HYPE effort is to serve as a unifying exercise: Know the History; and Expand Your Knowledge of the Constitution, as well as the intent of the founders, and understand the power of words — your own as well as others, Sherrock said.
Ford is a retired history teacher from Rome Free Academy and has earned numerous awards including Most Influential Teacher.
Ford has served his community as a councilman for the Town of Marshall from 2005-2013, was a founding member and first chairman of the Southern Oneida Council of Governments, a former trustee of the Genesis Group of the Greater Mohawk Valley and is the program facilitator for the Legacy Now leadership program.
He was awarded the Medal of the Order of 1777 by the Rome Historical Society and is currently the owner and operator of Whimsical Woodworks.
