The Project Fibonacci® Foundation, in collaboration with OHM BOCES, is thrilled to unveil an innovative Professional Development (PD) Day aimed at equipping educators with advancing their awareness of AI and AI skills.

With the theme of “Artificial Intelligence, The Smart Machine, and The Human Factor” at the forefront of Project Fibonacci’s Youth Leadership Conference (August 4-10, 2024), this PD Day serves as a pivotal opportunity for educators to enhance their understanding and awareness of AI. By aligning with the conference’s focus, our objective is to empower educators with the knowledge and confidence needed to seamlessly integrate AI into their teaching practices. Through this initiative, we aspire to foster a deeper understanding of AI among educators, enabling them to engage more effectively with this transformative technology.

Scheduled for Monday, May 6, 2024, from 9:00am to 2:30pm, this immersive event promises a dynamic exploration into Artificial Intelligence in Education. This will be held on site at the OHM BOCES on Middle Settlement Road in New Hartford, NY. Educators will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge of AI while exploring innovative strategies and best practices for enhanced teaching and learning experiences. The PD Day will feature breakout, interactive workshops, including

– Utilizing Chat GPT for Project-Based Learning (PBL): Discover how to leverage Chat GPT, an advanced AI model, to create engaging and immersive PBL experiences that foster critical thinking and creativity

-AI Tips, Tricks, and Tools: Gain practical insights into utilizing AI tools and resources effectively within the classroom, empowering educators to optimize teaching methodologies and student engagement

-Responsible AI: Navigating Ethical Challenges: Explore the ethical dimensions of AI integration in education and learn strategies for promoting responsible AI usage while navigating potential ethical dilemmas.

The highlight of the day will be a thought-provoking Mock Trial of AI, where participants will engage in a lively debate to examine the pros and cons of AI, its impact on education, society, and beyond. This interactive session aims to broaden perspectives and foster critical discourse on the evolving role of AI in education.

Educators are encouraged to bring their own devices, as there will be time for hands-on exploration of AI technologies within some of the workshops. Lunch will be on your own, allowing for an opportunity to network and have informal discussions with fellow educators.

Bill Daggett is the founder of both the Successful Practices Network and the International Center for Leadership in Education. He recently co-chaired the AASA LEARNING 2025: National Commission for Student-Centered, Equity-Focused, Future-Driven Education and is now leading the National Demonstration Network for AASA.

Dr. Daggett is recognized worldwide for his proven ability to move preK-12 education systems towards more rigorous and relevant skills and knowledge for all students. For 30 years, he has crisscrossed our nation, as well as the industrialized world, to lead school reform efforts to effectively prepare students for their future.

While an avid supporter of public education, he also challenges all of us to be more focused on our children’s future than on maintaining the schools of our youth. His insights and leadership have caused nearly every major education association in the country, hundreds of school districts, numerous political and business leaders, publishers, and others to seek out his advice and guidance.

Dr. Daggett began his career as a teacher, local administrator, and then director with the New York State Education Department. He spends much of his time providing leadership and guidance to the National Dropout Prevention Center and the Career and Technical Education Technical Assistance Center, which are part of the Successful Practices Network.

He is the creator of the Rigor/Relevance Framework and the Future-Focused Success Framework which has recently become the cornerstone of much of the nation’s school reform efforts. He is also the author of 26 books about learning and education, textbooks, research reports, and journal articles.

Dr. Daggett has been recognized as a distinguished alumnus by both Temple University and the State University at Albany.

Dr. Daggett has a special commitment to individuals with disabilities. He and his wife, Bonnie, volunteer their time and lend their support to Wildwood Programs in upstate New York. Wildwood serves the needs of people of all ages who, like their daughter Audrey, have neurological impairments/learning disabilities or autism, by enabling them to become the best that they can be.
