The Project Fibonacci® Foundation (PFF), in collaboration with OHM BOCES, will hold an innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) IQ Professional Development (PD) Day aimed at equipping educators with advancing their awareness of AI and AI skills for the classroom.

Scheduled for Monday, May 6, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, the immersive event will provide a dynamic exploration of AI in Education.  The event will be held on site at the OHM BOCES Facility on Middle Settlement Road in New Hartford, NY.

With the theme of “Artificial Intelligence, The Smart Machine, and The Human Factor” at the forefront of Project Fibonacci’s STEAM Leadership Conference (August 4-10, 2024), the PD Day serves as a pivotal opportunity for educators to enhance their AI understanding and awareness.  By aligning with the conference’s focus, PFF’s objective is to empower educators with the knowledge and confidence needed to seamlessly integrate AI into their teaching practices.

“Through this initiative, we aspire to foster a deeper understanding of AI among educators, enabling them to engage more effectively with this transformative technology for the benefit of their students,” stated Amy Jaworski, PFF planning committee member.

Educators will have the opportunity to increase their AI knowledge while exploring innovative strategies and best practices for enhancing teaching and learning experiences.  The PD Day will feature breakout, interactive workshops, including:

– Utilizing ChatGPT for Project-Based Learning (PBL): Discovering ways of leveraging the ChatGPT generative AI model, to create engaging and immersive PBL experiences that foster critical thinking and spur creativity.

– AI Tips, Tricks, and Tools: Gaining practical insights into utilizing AI tools and resources effectively within the classroom, empowering educators to optimize teaching methodologies and student engagement

– Responsible AI Usage & Navigating Ethical Challenges: Exploring the ethical dimensions of AI integration in education and learning strategies, including policies for promoting responsible AI usage while navigating potential ethical dilemmas.

The day will highlight a thought-provoking Mock Trial of AI, where participants will engage in a lively debate to examine the pros and cons of AI, its impact on education, society, and beyond.  The interactive session aims to broaden perspectives and encourage critical discourse on the evolving role of AI in education.

Educators are encouraged to bring their own laptop/tablet and smartphone devices, as time will be allotted for hands-on exploration of AI technologies within certain workshops.  Continental breakfast and coffee/tea will be served.  Attendees will break for lunch on their own, allowing for networking opportunities and informal discussions with fellow educators.

Whether AI novice or expert, the PD Day offers a transformative learning experience and a unique opportunity for educators to elevate their AI knowledge and teaching practices.

The Project Fibonacci® Foundation is committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation of innovators and leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and to use the arts to grow the STEM workforce.  Through immersive educational experiences, mentorship programs, and community partnerships, PFF seeks to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to gain the advantage amidst a dynamically-changing career landscape that is being redefined by the rapid pace of technological disruption caused, for example, by the AI revolution.
